Box Sediment Samplers

No. 214WA170 KAHLSICO BOX SEDIMENT SAMPLER is similar to the No. 214WA180 Birge-Ekman Dredge now universally used, except that it has a deeper sampling box, measuring 15 x 15 x 30 cm (6" x 6" x 12"). This device has all the desirable improvements incorporated in the standard-sized dredge, including the positive, reliable, messenger-operated release device, which has made the KAHLSICO product outstanding. All parts are made of heavy-gauge, stainless-steel, sheet metal, carefully fitted to insure trouble-free operations even under adverse field conditions. The hinged, extra-strong, closure jaws are machined and fitted so that they close completely to prevent leakage of sediment; they cannot readily be dented or bent should they strike hard objects or rocks on the bottom. finger-lifts, formed from the jaws themselves, facilitate easy opening and also avoid possible hand injury should the jaws accidentally be released while the device is being cocked. The jaws are held open by flexible stranded wires which fasten to the release holding pins at top of the framework. These are freed when a messenger, dropped down the line, strikes the release bar; external coil springs snap the jaws shut, trapping the sediment within. There are no spring-lever cocking devices to malfunction after a short time period or flimsy brass sheet to easily deform in use. The KAHLSICO dredge is fabricated from thick stainless-steel plates which provide strength and rigidity; also increasing its weight for deeper penetration into the bottom. Overlapping cover plates, loosely hinged at top of the box, permit outflow of water during descent and close snugly on the upward haul to prevent wash-out of collected material. This is the most practical and reliable device of its type and it is unconditionally guaranteed for workmanship and quality of materials. A reliable, detachable messenger is supplied with each dredge. The device weighs 9 kg (20 lbs) and its overall height is 50 cm (20").
