Blood collection tube maintains flow cytometry sample integrity for seven days

Omaha, NE - Streck Inc. introduces Cyto-Chex® BCT, a preservative reagent in a vacuum blood collection tube that increases transport and storage times without compromising the integrity of the blood sample.

Cyto-Chex BCT is intended for the collection and preservation of venous blood for immunophenotyping by flow cytometry including monitoring of lymphocyte subsets used in the management of HIV/AIDS patients. Cyto-Chex BCT contains a solution formulated to preserve the white blood cells in peripheral blood samples without reducing the activity of antigenic sites. Samples collected in Cyto-Chex BCT can be maintained for seven days prior to processing and analysis by flow cytometry methods.

This increase in storage time will greatly reduce the number of rejected samples due to degradation. Samples transported from draw site to test facility will not be rejected because they arrive beyond the 48-hour window.

The BCT tube is a standard 5 ml draw tube. The tubes are packaged in six and 25- and 100-tube configurations which will allow both small and large facilities to order appropriate amounts of tubes for their needs. Cyto-Chex BCT does not contain aldehydes or metal salt and is safe for direct draw.

Streck also offers other products for flow cytometry including cellular controls and reagents. CD-Chex® Plus is a complete, positive procedure control manufactured from normal human peripheral blood leukocytes and erythrocytes. Unlike a fresh whole blood sample, CD-Chex Plus provides reproducible data when used for daily quality control of immunophenotyping procedures. CD-Chex® CD34 is a control manufactured from CD34 positive cells and can be used with multiple platform methods when analyzing hemapoetic stem cells. Both products are available in two levels and offer 30 day open and 90 day closed-vial stability.

Streck is a leading independent developer and manufacturer of hematology and flow cytometry controls for the clinical laboratory.
